Marine Harvest are one of the largest seafood companies in the world, and the largest producer of Atlantic salmon. They approached us as they needed for fully working and commissioned 20ft refrigerated shipping container to use at one of their centres off the northwest coast of Scotland.

Their specific requirements were to have the refrigerated shipping container modified to meet statutory requirements for a walk in freezer and to meet their health and safety regulations. They needed to make sure their staff had the equipment and procedures in place to operate safely. We suggested that a “man trap” alarm would be a great solution to this issue and gives them the piece of mind they require. This along with illuminate lighting gives sufficient warning to others workers that a colleague is trapped.

The trap alarm provides an audible (100dB siren) and visual warning (red flashing light).The internal switch for alarm activation features a pull-cord with a ‘comfort’ location light that is continuously illuminated. The alarm has an internal reset switch and a re-chargeable battery that, in the event of a power failure, keeps the comfort location light illuminated and enables the panic alarm to function.

A major feature of the safety measures included the removal of the original cargo doors that were replaced with a custom made ‘butcher’s door’ that featured an external lock. Even if the door was locked with a key, anyone inside could still exit the container via the butcher’s door using a push-button internal release. The butcher’s door was installed with the option of an interior gasket heater, run from a low voltage transformer.

When we are asked to provide working refrigerated shipping containers, we undertake a full pre-trip inspection (PTI) and undertake any repairs required. We will also recover and safely dispose of the existing refrigerant gas and replace it with virgin R134A gas. Prior to charging with new gas, we also replace the filter drier and perform a leak check.

In this case, the refrigerator motor is a Carrier Thinline model.

For the internal electrics (lighting) etc., we also installed an RCD (Residual Current Device), all trunking and fittings as required.

All our used working refrigerated shipping containers have an external construction of muffler grade stainless steel with the interior panels being food-grade stainless steel. Flooring is typically the original aluminium ‘T’-Bar flooring but this can be changed to chequer plate if desired.

All units can be supplied with a valid ISO compliant container ID and an up-dated CSC plate for shipping purposes.

Prior to delivery, we thoroughly clean the interior and re-paint the exterior with white, marine grade paint.

Any repairs will be performed using OEM parts only that we obtain direct from the manufacturer.

Our depot is a certified Carrier Transicold, Daikin, Star Cool and Thermo King service centre, giving you the assurance that all the refrigerated containers provided by us have been repaired, commissioned and inspected to the highest of standards.
