Shipping Container Modifications: Creating a Blank End

In this guide we detail the process some of our yards go through when creating a blank end for a shipping container. Its important to mention that different yards of ours do have different processes. If we are providing you with a container that been made by cutting down a bigger shipping container to size the its likely a process like this will be undertaken, but at times yards will use different techniques depending on available materials and skills within the yard. This is more relevant to potential buyers of our refurbished ranges of 10ft and 20ft containers as well as custom sized containers (eg a 15ft or 23ft container). We do not guarantee that ll our blank end panels are made exactly like this, this is jsut used as an example to describe one of the popular processes we undertake.

When we make up a set of 10ft containers for example, we will commonly take a single 40ft container, and cut it into 4x 10 ft long sections. This gives us most of the container we need but we then need to fill in the open sections with doors and blank ends to make the 4x 10ft storage containers.

In this example our yard has a spare 8ft wide section that has been previously cut from a container. This could be a section cut out when we were to fit in an extra set of doors to the side of a different container, we may have spare sections taken from a roller shutter fitting job, or at times we will have unique conversion jobs on that might have called for similar amount of side panel to be cut out. Very occasionally we buy in a heavily damaged container simply to use for spare parts. All of these types of work offer us ‘donor’ sections of corrugates COT-TEN steel which are ideal for fitting to an open end in a shipping container.

In this case feet are added to the bottom of the box section frame to allow the container to be more readily levelled off. When a refurbished container goes out without this feet this can easily be adjusted for by making suitable adjustments to the supports you will have under the corners of the shipping container.

Taking this sapre 8ft wide section of corrugated steel panel, we add a sturdy box section frame around it and we’ll rub down any areas of heavy rust and any repairs previously undertaken to ensure the panel is solid and sound.
