Pallet Wide shipping containers are popular for clients storing or shipping Euro Pallets. They are approx 2 inches (5cm) wider than standard 8ft wide containers and are specifically designed for optimal transportation of cargo on Euro pallets (the exact external dimensions can vary slightly depending on the manufacturers design and the age of container). Pallets can be placed next to one another in the container without any loss of space. This means that they can accommodate much more than a standard container.
Although 2 inches doesn’t sound a lot, that is the difference between tightly packing a container full of Euro pallets and leaving gaps and empty space – which of course if you’re transporting a specific quantity to a particular destination may result in you needing a second container and therefore unwanted expense!

Please note: the accuracy of the dimensions in the table above is based on majority of pallet wide containers which we’ve had in our depots to date. But each pallet wide will vary slightly depending on the manufacturer. Please ask us if you have any queries.
Pallet wide shipping containers are not widely available so it’s always worth a check with us as to what stocks we have where. If you just want good value storage space a standard width container will usually work out most cost effective (we would always highlight the most cost effective option in any case!) but if you need this extra width, then pallet wide shipping containers are very likely to be the best option overall. As well as our range of 40ft standard height (8ft 6 high) shipping containers we also have a range of 40ft high cube containers which are 9ft 6 high instead of 8ft 6 high. These are also available in Pallet Wide variations for Euro pallets carrying particularly high or tall goods. High cubes are also popular if you want to use a fork lift inside your shipping container for loading and unloading the pallets.
All our shipping containers are sourced directly from shipping industry use. Rest assured we won’t offer you an older container that has been previously purchased as ‘used’ and then (for example) used by a farmer for 5-10 years for storage before being sold back to us without making this clear to you (these pre-used containers would be sold at a discount when available but would also offer a shorter life than our usual used stock – which we’d guess is about 10-15 years of life left).
As you can see, if you know your containers, Pallet wide Shipping containers will have a different looking door configuration than standard shipping containers but they operate in exactly the same way (its just majority of the locking bars are covered over leaving only the locking bars exposed for easy use).
