6 Ways to Celebrate Christmas with a Shipping Container

Time is racing towards the end of the year and it’s beginning to feel quite festive at Budget Shipping Containers HQ.  As we dig out our favourite festive jumpers and tuck into a mince pie or two, we thought we would share our favourite 6 ways to celebrate Christmas with a Shipping Container!

1. A Shipping Container Advent Calendar

Who doesn’t love an advent calendar?  We can beat your chocolate calendar with this mammoth advent container made for shipping containers that was created back in 2014 in Ontario, Canada for the Ontario Toyota Dealership Association.  Measuring 17 metres high, 12 metres wide, and 6 metres deep this incredible structure was erected in a car park as part of an amazing holiday giveaway PR campaign.

For each day of advent, a deserving winner was nominated to win one of the “special gifts” stored inside each of the shipping containers.  Prizes included holidays to Disney World, new laptops and even a supply of dancing shoes for a dance teacher who gave free dance lessons to people living with Parkinson’s disease.

2. A Christmas Gift with a difference!

For the man or woman who has everything, why not treat them to a Shipping Container for Christmas?  Shipping Containers can be transformed into a wide range of things from Man Caves and She Sheds, to Garden Bars, Workshops, Home Offices, and even Hot Tub Shelters!  If you follow our regular blog posts you can find lots of inspiration, or if you have an idea for a Shipping Container conversion do get in touch and we would be pleased to help!

3. An alternative nativity – and an outdoor BBQ shelter for socially distanced garden parties!

In 2019 we converted a shipping container into a barbeque shelter for our customers Hadrian’s Barn in Northumberland and they surprised us with a Christmas card depicting their own version of the nativity!

Their charming Shipping Container BBQ shelter is ideal for outdoor socialising in a year when we have spent a lot more time than usual in our gardens.  If you are brave enough to enjoy Christmas dinner in the great outdoors, this would be a great way to protect everyone from the elements!

4. Christmas Party in a Shipping Container

You might think that a Shipping Container would be a bit on the small side for a Christmas party but you absolutely can celebrate Christmas with a Shipping Container!  One shipping container might restrict guest numbers somewhat (though it would make an excellent small private dining space).   However, Pop Brixton in London is a much larger venue constructed from recycled Shipping Containers and reclaimed material with a fantastic event space available to hire.  Including a large event space for parties and corporate events, and a smaller private dining space for more intimate events.  View their event spaces here.

5. Sleigh or Gift Storage in a Shipping Container

Santa must struggle for storage space up there in the North Pole with a big sleigh and all of those presents to keep safe and secure until Christmas Eve.  We would recommend a few secure storage containers for the job!

Shipping Containers extremely secure and non-descript which makes them an ideal option for storage.  For extra protection, a lockbox can be installed to cover the padlock and anti-vandal shutters and doors are excellent add-ons to secure access points.

In darker and colder conditions our motion-sensor, battery-powered LED lights can help to prevent slips or trips inside your Container.  While our moisture traps will help to absorb extra moisture from the air and protect the contents from damp or mildew.

6. Santa’s Grotto in a Shipping Container

We have been searching high and low for a while now for a cool Santa’s Grotto in a Shipping Container.  We just think that a Shipping Container Grotto would work so well!

Recently we discovered this fantastic Container Grotto by Australian container provider Royal Wolf which transformed a 40ft shipping container into a festive extravaganza!

What kind of Shipping Container could you turn into a Santa’s Grotto?

A Side Opening Shipping Container would enable you to open the entire side of the container so that Santa was fully on display to his visitors!  Side Opening Containers are fitted with one huge set of side doors that span the full length of one long side of a shipping container and a single set of end opening doors.  This gives you easy access for loading and unloading your shipping container too.

Alternatively, you could go for a more traditional standard end opening Shipping Container which would be better on the budget, and probably easier to source.  Though we can help to find either!

With access to the right transport, you could even make your grotto into a travelling attraction and take the festive fun on the road!

So, there you have it!  6 ways to celebrate Christmas with a Shipping Container!  Can you think of any we have missed?
