Bright Pink Roaming Art Installation Shipping Container, Canterbury, Kent

In early January 2022 we were approached by the Artist Hive Studios, who wanted to create a roaming art installation by using a shipping container and having it resprayed bright pink! Hive is a collective of curators, artists and cultural programmers, who offer creative workspaces and studios for artists across two locations in London.

Nearly New One Trip Shipping Container

As this shipping container was going to be viewed by lots of people, the container needed to look good as well as being wind and watertight to protect the artwork inside. Our near new shipping containers are typically ex-storage site units which have been bought as a one trip originally and sat static ever since. All one trip containers will have some damage, a small dent or a scratch as they are handled by very heavy machinery. However, one trip and new containers will look a lot smarter than used containers.

In the case of this container, it had very little damage and only a little faded paint, but as this was to be resprayed a bright pink, a near new container was the best and most cost effective option for this project. Near new containers typically have upwards of 10 years life, possibly reaching 20 years or more – meaning this roaming art installation could be on the road for a long time!

Shipping Container Colours

Bright pink shipping containerMost commonly one trip shipping containers are factory painted in blue or green. When repainting a shipping container, you can pick pretty much whatever colour you would like, even the less traditional colours like bright pink! You can take a look at our shipping container colour chart here to see the variety of colours we can offer.

Repainting containers is a good idea if you want your container to look smarter as it will cover fading paint, scuffs and scratches. Being able to pick the colour of your repainted container gives you the option to camouflage the container into its surroundings, make it stand out or have it match company logos or branding.

This artist wanted their container to stand out and draw attention so was interested in the less common colours for containers. They looked at repainting their shipping container pastel green, yellow/green and finally landed on bright pink. We think you’d have to agree – a bright pink container definitely stands out!
