Cost Effective Temporary Structures

If you’re looking for extra covered space to work on vehicles, wash them, or simply provide protection from the elements, then our shipping container canopies are a perfect solution. They can be dismantled and moved to a new location for reassembly and are excellent as temporary structures or as an extension to your covered space to help deal with seasonal peaks in demand, or managing various projects across different sites as may be required.  The containers themselves provide a large amount of secure storage conveniently located right next to your work space,

Each canopy is designed to fit on top of shipping containers, can be 20ft or 40′ long, work with standard height (8ft 6″) containers or high cube (9ft 6″ high) containers, and the containers can even be double stacked to provide the largest possible internal volume.

PVC Shipping Container Canopy Range

20ft shipping container canopy1Our PVC shipping container canopies start at £2100 +VAT for a 20ft canopy. When installed on standard height containers this provides a covered area of up to 52sq m. Height at the centre would be 5.75m, plenty of headroom for a double decker bus or articulated truck. When used with double stacked containers height becomes 5.18m at the lowest point, rising to well over 8m in the centre. A 40ft PVC canopy over double stacked containers would easily accommodate 3 Routemaster double deckers with plenty of room around each one to work.

HDPE Shipping Container Canopy Range

Starting at £4650 +VAT for a 6m canopy to fit between 2 x 20ft containers these canopies are very high quality structures that will serve you well for years to come. The widest canopies in this range come in at a whopping 20m wide, a 20m canopy between 2 40ft containers will give you a huge 240sq m of workspace, between stacked containers this would easily accommodate 8 Routemasters with room to spare! These canopies can be linked together to form even larger structures, the 24m x 20m structure pictured could fully cover 16 Routemasters with enough room left for plenty of cars or other smaller vehicles! The cost for such a structure, including the 4 containers (used) would come in under £60k + delivery +VAT. Should you decide to move it 50 miles down the road in 10 months or 10 years time you can do so for around £10,000 or less, including all labour and transport costs, and could be done in a few days if required.

Shipping Container Options

The containers are more than just supports for the structure, they can be used for secure storage for tools and equipment, and with a few modifications can become office space, a canteen, sleeping accommodation, viewing gallery or any other requirement you may have. We are very happy to talk through these options and find the best possible configuration for your needs.

With our network of container conversion yards spanning the UK we can very easily customise any conversion to fit your specific needs.

Container Canopy Installation

You will need to place the shipping containers at the correct widths before starting to build the canopy and the containers must be perfectly parallel. If there is a 6 metre gap between the containers at one and and a 5.5 metre gap at the other end, you will not be able to correctly fit the canopy.

The containers should also be as level as they can with each other. – this is advised for basic container operation and is essential with a canopy on the top too! There is some give in the design for a slight slope but you should plan to have these on a flat, level base.

The canopy will arrive in a circa 2 tonne steel cradle, you will require a forklift or suitable equipment to take this from our delivery truck.

Specialist equipment required to build our container canopies

To build this canopy you will require:

  • Access to welder or fabricator
  • Forklift or telehandler with 8m lift capable of working on the ground on and around your canopy.
  • Safe working at height equipment min 6 metres high, eg a scissor lift capable of working on the ground where your shelter is being built.
  • Angle Grinder with cutting and grinding blades
  • Minimum 3 people required to build.

Step by step assembly instructions are included with each purchase including a complete list of tools needed. The above are the major specialised items that a lot of customers may not have access to. ALl working heights quoted above are based on building the canopy on a single story standard height (8ft 6 high) shipping container. If building on taller or stacked containers you will need to adjust your max working heights accordingly.

A cheap, temporary or permanent, flexible solution

So, if you are running a transport fleet, be it buses or HGV’s, consider these options when your capacity is stretched. You can assemble a working transport depot in only a few days if that’s what you need, provide extra capacity at your existing site, or increase productivity by providing shelter where works may have been delayed due to weather otherwise.
