Got some spare yard space at your workplace or factory? A lot of our customers have come up with some clever ways to utilise unused yard space which can help them stretch more from their operation, or help them earn additional income from a corner of their yard which was otherwise unused. Here are some neat ideas to help you make the most from your spare yard space.

Self storage rentals

A fantastic long term investment, especially if you already have the land.

A one trip (new) shipping container offers superb long term value and maintains a good resale value as well as looking nice and smart. Prices do vary with the market and total price will also depend on your geography, but a typical customer will by new containers for around £2000 each, and you can rent them out for £1250-2500 annual rent depending on location and rental terms.

The shipping container itself will likely last 10-20 years with minimal maintenance and although it will loose around half of its value on day one, it will then hold its value very well for the next 10-15 years.

For many customers with spare yard space they already have a secure yard so no extra capital outlay is required. You don’t necessarily need a massive number of containers to make this system work.

This yard isn’t huge and only has space for a total of around 8 shipping containers. This is no bad thing as the site owners know they won’t be inundated with day to day traffic for the containers which may otherwise hamper their factory operation, they can even afford to be choosy over who they have into their facility. Running a small self storage operation is a nice and easy means to maximise the earnings from under utilised yard space and with a small number of containers means you aren’t spending significant time and effort to manage the operation.

Make the most of your warehouse space with stackable storage

Having been awarded the sole UK licence to distribute the Scandic Roofart Rainwater System, Southern Sheeting Supplies needed significant additional storage space at very short notice. We were able to deliver the units within a few days and stack them as part of the installation process. Utilising our heavy duty interlocks ensuring the containers are held firm. These 5 staked containers now store the full range of metal guttering with the faster moving products in the bottom containers and the slow moving stock in the top ones.

 

The flexibility of the new containers means they aren’t tying up valuable space inside their main warehouse and as the Roofart metal guttering range grows in popularity the container requirements grow with it!

Additional workshops, sheds, barns and covered work-spaces

Additional office spaces and work stations

Outgrowing your office? We can offer containerised office units; a 20ft office unit can comfortably fit up to 4 people working inside and we have used and refurbished office units available from as little as £2500 + VAT plus delivery.

For a smarter option we can build you a bespoke brand new office unit with doors, windows, lights and plug sockets exactly where you want them, you can even specify interior wall paneling, insulation and floor materials to use to give you the finish you want. Ball park figures for a 20ft new build office run at £5-6000 + VAT but prices will of course vary a lot with the exact specification you want. Some example pictures of previous refurbished office conversion are shown below (these pictures are taken from 2 different sized units we did and these pictures aren’t all taken from the same container)

These self contained units should negate the need for planning permission as they are temporary structures and have no foundations (we make no guarantees though – always check first as different councils and Councillors can take a different view to each other at times).  They may be exempt from additional business rates for the same reason. They can of course be moved very easily should your site move, develop or otherwise change, and we can of course stack these office units on top of a bottom row of storage containers to help you maximise what you can do with the available free space in your yard. We even have the staircases to allow you to access a top row of containers.
