Refurbished 10ft Shipping Container Loading Bay Extension, Dagenham
In 2021 we were approached by Paragon, an international customer communications company. They required a modified 10ft shipping container to be used as a loading bay extension for their pallet trucks to run along. In order to achieve this, we had to modify the shipping container in multiple ways to give our customer, a unit which fit their needs.
Modifying the Shipping Container
Paragon need a 10ft extension to their loading bay. Their 10ft refurbished shipping container was made by cutting down a larger shipping container to 10ft. The cargo doors and front end of the container were also removed to create a covered loading bay extension area.
Box sections were also fitted to support the shipping container’s roof and frame. With the doors and front end of the shipping container being cut out and removed, the roof is unsupported and likely to sag. The walls may also have warped over time without the box sections supporting the frame.
The jack legs were added to give the modified shipping container some extra height, meaning it could be levelled to the loading bay/docking platform. The jack legs were also adjustable so that the container could be adjusted to around a metre, making it easy for the customer to level up their loading bay extension.
Paragon was to use the shipping container extension to run a pallet truck along the shipping container, so the jack legs needed to be strong enough to support the weight of the shipping container, along with the pallet truck and whatever goods it would be moving.
10ft Shipping Containers
10ft shipping containers are a popular choice for customers looking for secure storage, but are limited on space. 10ft containers are not a particularly common size. Most of the UK’s 10ft containers are cut down from larger standard size containers (20ft/40ft) and then refurbished. A small number of 10ft containers have been made, but due to their rarity they can be pretty expensive.
Our refurbished 10ft shipping containers are mostly made from used stock. This means that there may be some cosmetic damage to the unit, such as dents, scratches and minor surface rust under the paintwork. Having these repainted means that a lot of cosmetic damage can be covered.
As with all our shipping containers, our 10ft units are still wind and watertight and structurally sound. They also come with our 12 month wind and watertight guarantee.
Refurbished Shipping Container
Refurbished shipping containers are a popular choice for customers looking for a more affordable, smart looking container. All of our refurbished shipping containers are made from used shipping containers, generally these are 10 – 15 years old. They are repainted and a lock box is added for security.
By repainting the used container, scratches, scuffs and old paint are covered up and create a much nicer looking shipping container. When purchasing a refurbished container, you are given the choice of which RAL you would like your shipping container to be painted in. Paragon chose RAL 5002, as you can see from our photo of the unit, the repaint definitely helped to create a very smart and neat piece of kit to suit their needs.
While this refurbished shipping container did not get a lock box added (no doors to lock!), as standard we do fit lock boxes to all our refurbished shipping containers. Lock boxes are an excellent way to secure you shipping container. Lock boxes are steel plates which are welded to cargo doors and shroud the padlocks. They prevent forced entry through cutting tools and padlock jimmying.
Lockboxes are a massively popular option when a container is to be used for storage and when used with our insurance rated Squire padlocks they provide amazing security for your shipping container. Lock boxes can also be added onto used containers, if you are looking for secure storage but perhaps aren’t fussed about the appearance of your storage container.
