This generator housing and electrical distribution container (‘Distro Container’) was originally made in our East London depot for a major civil engineering project. It has been used throughout this construction to house an on-site generator safely and securely. The clever design of this unit offers six heavy-duty 415 volt outputs and two isolators, all accessible from outside but protected from the elements. The generator itself can be housed inside the ventilated container, which can be kept closed and locked if required for site safety and security. For a larger building site or construction project a distribution unit like this will allow many more people to have their own power supply without the need for additional generators – all properly fused and switched for maximum safety and productivity.
Originally cut down from a larger container, this is a great example of an upcycled shipping container. A section of shipping container panelling was used to close off the back of the container, and the original cargo doors were retained. A security lockbox was added to help protect the valuable contents, and a set of lifting eyes were also added to allow the unit to be lifted with a crane when empty. A recess was constructed into the side of the container to allow the switchgear be be mounted on the outside, but be protected from the elements. This was, of course, fitted by a fully qualified electrician. There are a few dents and scrapes under the new paintwork, but overall this is a smart and functional piece of kit.
This custom built shipping container generator room is just under 10ft in length, and 8ft wide, 8ft 6ins high (external measurements). Many generators will easily fit inside, but even if your generator is too large to put into the unit then the electrical distribution features can still be used via the extra-long connection cable. Additional ventilation has been fitted to the container to allow for airflow and removal of exhaust gasses. The unit can be moved around on site and from site to site easily by use of a Hiab crane or similar.
This has been checked over in our London depot, and is guaranteed wind and watertight for 12 months. As you can see in the pictures it has been repainted grey internally, blue externally and is clean and presentable. As with all electrical installations this will have been certified at our depot, but you will require a qualified electrician to install it once its delivered (as the certification is only valid at the address the product is used).
