Product Description

Budget Shipping Containers are the supplier of buoyancy aids called “Shipping Container Pontoons”. The need to increase the supply of housing and tackle affordability issues is a key factor in most of Europe today, but a very popular solution to the housing crisis is floating shipping containers (as well as a fantastic way to spend your leisure time!) Our sturdy shipping container pontoons logs weigh in at around 25kg each and are circa 3ft in length. It can take as little as 18 of them to float a 20ft shipping container and only 32 to float a 40ft shipping container. With the option of a fore and aft (front and back) deck also available you can easily convert an ordinary shipping container into a floating home. Rather than spending many tens of thousands for a basic river cruiser or narrow boat to float around in for a nice quiet weekend, a shipping container home will come in at a fraction of the price.

Using a Shipping Container as a Home

Shipping Containers are built from corten (COR-TEN A grade) steel – an anti-rust alloy of steel. When rust does form on corten steel it is non-porous (it won’t let water through the rust) meaning the metal underneath the surface rust is well protected. This means not only do these containers endure the highly corrosive salty sea air and water, but they will last an extremely long time too.

Shipping containers offer the perfect solution for a long term house-boat. When using containers for an inland home it’s not too much of an issue but if you are using them close to the shore line or actually on water (on our Shipping Container Pontoons), they are fine to withstand the corrosive ocean air and water, although it is best practice to touch up any blemishes, scratches and chips on the container’s surface with a paint similar to ‘marine grade’. This will ensure protection and long life.

When quoting for a container to go with pontoons we will include some additional work to add additional basic protection to the underside of any shipping containers.

A wealth of possible options

Floating shipping container houses, a Jetty made from shipping containers, containerised barges, floating bridges, gift shops or cafes to name but a few. You could even add in one of our container canopies and have yourself a high capacity floating barn or aircraft hangar.

Delivery

Delivery prices are available upon request and are subject to your UK address. The units are manufactured overseas but we do try to keep good stocks in the UK for smaller, more urgent orders. Delivery timescales, as always, will be subject to stock levels, your order quantity and of course your requirements. We will do our best to get you what, when you want it. Generally speaking if we haven’t got stocks in the UK delivery is 25 – 35 days from point of payment.

While we can deliver containers with a crane equipped vehicle we CANNOT deliver a container to a client’s address straight onto a pontoon framework in water. We can only offload the container with our hiab as normal for the client to arrange to get it craned onto the pontoons and/or into the water.
