Shipping Container Kiosk and Catering Stand Options

At Budget Shipping Containers we have a fantastic array of options for events customers or anyone wanting to serve the public from a kiosk-style setup. In this post, we detail some of the options we have available, what to expect, and approximate lead times for a lot of this work to allow you to prepare for the summer events season.

Flat Pack Kiosk Containers

Available in 2x2m, 2x3m, and 2x4m options,

But these can also be linked with an insulated store to offer a double depth unit of each size, so a 2m wide x 4m deep option, 3m wide x 4m deep, and 4x4m if you needed a larger space internally.

These flat pack kiosk units are ideal for pub gardens, street food setups, and events. They can be closed and locked up at night and are easy to fit out for food or drink serving options. They can be built and dismantled in a few hours.

The panels are all insulated ensuring no condensation build-up internally when closed overnight.

Ideal for a range of sites that are hard to reach for one of our delivery trucks (Individual panels can be carried into position allowing these flat pack kiosks to be built pretty much anywhere). It’s very easy to clad or decorate the outside to match your site, branding, or general feel.

These units will usually take 2 or 3 people a few hours to build the first time around. Whilst designed to be portable and temporary there is no reason these couldn’t serve the right customer for many years as a static unit in constant use.

On the slight downside, these are standard factory-built bits of kit, and getting you a custom design or layout may not be a practical option for many. This is where a converted shipping container may come into its own:

Converted Shipping Containers as Kiosks and Serving Units

A converted shipping container can also offer an excellent value kiosk or serving unit.  Compared to the flat pack kiosk units a shipping container will work best or most cost-effective as an 8ft deep by any width you want

The main bonus of a shipping container conversion is the degree of customisation that you can build into any of these units. All of our converted containers are designed and built to order. You can decide exactly where all the fittings and fixtures will go. So for example just on doors, you can choose whether to have a standard high-security door, you can have it left or right hinged, you can mount it anywhere in the container you want to match your site, and you can choose if you want to upgrade to a wider door (to help you get large trolleys or other items in and out more easily).  Or you could go for a higher level of security on the door, and you can also add door closers, vision panels, kickboards and more to any of our door options as well as having custom colours and bespoke vision panels built into the unit.

Almost every other fitting and fixture can come with a similar degree of customisation. You can choose the size and shape of your serving window(s), we can repaint the container almost any colour you want externally, add vinyl, or we can wood-clad your container in a range of wood options for a smarter finish.

We can fit electrics and you can choose where you have your plug sockets and lights fitted, but you can also choose the position of the external blue power plug and the internal RCD unit (Modern fuse box) allowing you to get us to fit plugs in the right places for all your appliances and at the height you want for best access or fit.

We can also make recommendations that may help you work to a variety of budgets, as you may expect sometimes there is a ‘cheap and cheerful’ way to modify a container, and there may well be a more expensive, and more beautiful way to achieve the same goal. Understanding your wants and your approach will allow us to make recommendations to help you meet your main goals, and it will help us to give you honest advice if we think you are asking for a Rolls Royce job but have a Ford Fiesta budget!

You can see a range of the serving and kiosk containers that we have done in the past below with some links to other case studies and articles on our website where available. If you are considering a converted shipping container for a kiosk here are some top tips that can help us help you.

  • Give us a call in the first instance to discuss your ideas with us, and we can make broad recommendations on what we think may work for you, as well as talking through various fit-out options that may work for your end goal.
  • Have a good think about the site and how you want to fit any container out.
    • Where do the power and water connections (if required) come from?
    •  Which side or end will staff approach from and which side and which way round do you want the door to open?
    • Which side will your customers approach from and what do you want them to see.
    • Make a plan considering the equipment and fittings yo need inside your unit and plan the space out carefully to make sure you make the best use of the space available.
  • Delivery – we will want to understand where this is going and how straightforward this is for our delivery truck. Tricky or risky deliveries will need to be well investigated before we start work on your conversion.

Here are some examples of kiosk and catering units we have supplied in the past.

These include

  • Kiosks used for information stands, help desks, and a DJ booth for the fan zone at the cricket world cup
  • a 45ft container converted into a cafe unit for Dudley zoo. this can easily be rebranded and moved around the site as the zoo develops and evolves over time.
