New Overlay Ply Floor Conversion for Shipping Containers

All shipping containers purchased from us will come with a good, study plywood floor that has been thoroughly inspected, so there is no need to worry about holes, heavy de-laminating on the boards or you putting your foot through the floor!

All shipping container floors have a circa 28mm thick marine ply floor. They might not always be the prettiest, with minor cosmetic scratches, potential stains and scrapes consistent with whatever’s been moved inside them to be expected in older containers, but they will always be strong and sound and checked over before being sent to you.

What to Expect from a Standard Used Container Floor

Inside a used shipping container. Floor is worn and dirty but still soundBoth used shipping containers and refurbished shipping containers, as consistent with their age and previous usage, will have the most heavily ‘worn’ floors. Scratches, scrapes, perhaps minor de-lamination, and potentially some staining if something has leaked onto / into the ply flooring are all common cosmetic defects.

Evidence of previous repairs or any little ‘nicks’ in the floor may have a plate added over the top rather than replacing a whole floor panel, which would put the cost of the container up considerably, all  for the sake of a 3mm ‘nick’ of wood where a pallet has caught the floor in a previous life.

This means that while they might not be winning any beauty contests any time soon, our flooring will still be strong and sound. Nine times out ten, people just care about the condition of the floor not the cosmetic appearance.

As a previous client said – “You’re not going to see it when your stuff is on it!”

Overlaying with a New Plywood Floor

For the one client who does want a nice looking, smoothed over floor, we do offer a new overlaid ply floor conversion to any of our shipping containers.

For this we leave the original, strong, sound floor in place and simply lay more 6mm ply over the top. It is a conversion available out of our Birmingham, Manchester and London deports. Regional prices will vary subject to geographical location.

This is the ideal conversion if you are sliding cardboard boxes in and out of the container on a daily basis. A smooth surface will not only look good, but your box won’t snag on it, either!

Below are some before and after photos:

Generally any floor damage less than 6mm deep is deemed as acceptable throughout the industry, not just by us, but by any container trader, because the floor still operates as you would expect it to and does not show signs of dipping or cracking when exposed to weight. Anything more than 6mm will be either repaired or replaced accordingly.

One Trip Shipping Container Floors

Inside 20ft one trip. Floor is near perfect, very smart and tidyNew/One Trip shipping containers will have the best floors. In a nutshell, a One Trip container, as its name suggests, is a brand new container that has taken one trip overseas to the UK to ship goods and then has been sold into the UK market, rather than its original owner paying to ship it back to it’s original company without any goods inside.

Because of this, the floors are in almost immaculate condition. They may have small scratches and scrapes or a fresh black tyre marks where a forklift has whizzed in to pick up a pallet, but will otherwise be pretty pristine.
