Product Description
Our self fit shipping container insulation kits are one of our most popular container accessories. They are a great, cost-effective solution for insulating your shipping container and also protecting against condensation.
As well as being used ‘after-market’, we can supply these when you purchase your shipping container. Please note though, we do not offer an in-depot fitting service for this product.
Commonly used in the import / export market for the shipment of temperature sensitive cargo which does not require refrigerated containers. These also provide effective condensation control in containers used for static storage.
These kits are great alternatives to grafotherm. Grafo is an excellent product for preventing condensation, but our insulation kit has the added advantage that is acts as an insulator too! They also can be removed from a container and reapplied in another container if necessary, you’ll just need to get some more thermal tape for reapplying.
Installation
We do not offer a fitting service with these kits, they are supply only. However, they are very simple to fit! We’d suggest around 30 -45 mins for the smaller kits, 45 – 60mins for the larger.
The insulation kit is made of lots of very small ‘cells’, which can be cut if necessary. This allows you to work this around shelving or other internal fixtures or fittings. You can easily cut the material with a set of good kitchen scissors. There is a lot of spare thermal tape with each kit to allow for most customisations.
The kit arrives in pre cut panels to fit your container. Each panel has large strips of thermal bonding tape applied to the back (think of this as industrial grade sticky back plastic). This will only stick better over time (tape may come loose if the panels are regularly disturbed over time but this can be replaced pretty easily). For the inside of the door you get 1 panel that will need cutting to allow for the door to open.
Please ensure the container walls and ceiling are free from loose paint, damp, dirt and grease. We recommend applying the insulation kit when the container has warmed up. If your container already has condensation, we recommend leaving the doors open for a couple of sunny hours in the morning and you should find that any condensation has probably evaporated from your container by midday.
We have always found it easier to fit with 2 people. One person holds one end of each panel into place. The other person pulls off the backing from the tape sticking it to the container. We recommend using a broom to help fit this to a shipping container.
Pay special attention to the corrugated ‘indents’ – you want to ensure the tape sticks to the slopes and flats fully to achieve maximum adhesion.
Please see the below video of how to fit the insulation kit. We also have this handy how to guide.
U Value / Insulation
With a ‘U’ value of 0.92 W/m²K, this kit provides a highly effective radiant barrier at a very competitive price. Basically, a ‘U’ value measures how effective a material is as an insulator and is mostly used by building companies and architects to measure the environmental performance of a building. A lower ‘U’ value indicates better thermal insulation.
Whilst only 4mm in thickness, this product is as effective as 55mm thick polystyrene. It incorporates a thermal barrier that slows down the rate air within the container cools down, preventing condensation. A tiny amount of condensation may form from the air outside of the liner as it cools down, but the liner itself will then protect your cargo space inside the shipping container. The air bubble in the middle of the insulation also prevents cold bridging across the insulation material.
Other Shipping Container Insulation Kit Options
If any of the below options are of interest, please get in touch with our Sales Team who will be happy to help with your enquiry!
Custom Sizes
If you have a shipping container that doesn’t match the dimensions of our standard options, we can quote for custom sized kits. This option is also available if you want to insulation your flatpack container or shed.
Flooring
Our standard insulation kits do not include insulation panels for the floor. As heat rises, insulating the floor does very little to add to the effectiveness of the kit. We can offer panels for the floor if necessary.
Premium Eco-Quilt
This is the higher end option we can offer with our self fit kits. It is a little thicker than our basic options, and has more layers. This Eco-Quilt option works similarly to 80mm polystyrene insulation. This option will not be necessary for many customers / storage needs. We suggest if you need to seriously limit temperature fluctuations or if you want a VIP insulation performance.
