Phishing Warning for suppliers 30th Jan 2023
30th January 2023, we have been advised by a supplier that emails are being sent from a nonedescript gmail account propordudly from our new finance director ‘Paul Miller’.
These are fake emails and should be cosnidered a scam, likley a phishing attempt.
They are resquesting copies of statemnts for any money owed, we assueme this would follow with a message advising new bank details for a payment to be made.
Please note for your security.
- We will only ever email customers or suppliers from an email account that ends @budgetshippingcontainers.co.uk
- You can see who works here on our ‘meet the team’ page (link available at bottom of our homepage) : https://www.budgetshippingcontainers.co.uk/our-team/
- We do not have a new finance director of any name, let alone ‘Paul Millar’ used in the email that we have seen (names may change on other emails)
- We always reccomend calling a known phone number to verify any change of bank details or other important company information. Never use a phone number or contact information on the paperwork that comes with the message (if its been sent by scammers, it will have their conact info on the paperwork!). Look up the phone number in your own systems, or online to verify.
If you have seen a similar email please ignore it. If you are happy to forward this to us please do so via our main email address on the contact us page, and we will use these for evidence purposes.
Normal day to day customers are not affected in any way by this, this email is aimed at defrauding our regular / credit account customers and potnetially our suppliers (whome we may do mutual trade with). Fortunately as we only have a handul of cusotmers who have credit terms agreed this is likely a wasted venture by our scamers – it’s very easy for us to advise our credit custoemrs which is happening now and will be complete by 5pm today.
If you are a customer, or potential cusotmer and have any questions on scams, how we can show we are a established and legitimate company, and how we can help offer you protection on any purchase – pelase speak with your customer services contact who will be happy to help. Pleae note there are lots of scmmers operating in the retail space as well defrauding people who are tryign to buy a shipping contianer, a lot of them appear to be using facebook marketplace as well as other ‘free to list’ online marketplaces.
One of the ways we stand out here, is our ability to react and make it harder for scamers to target us versus other businesses. Having this message up within an hour of seeing the scam email is one way we can make life hard for the criminals.
