Open Sided 20ft Shipping Container for Pallet Storage, Chester
Side opening and open sided shipping containers are very popular for many types of storage needs. Most popular, they are used for storing oversized items that wouldn’t fit through the end cargo doors. They are also very popular for pallet storage, as the full side access allows for easy access. They are becoming more popular for conversions into exhibits and catering stands too.
There are many ways to get an open sided shipping container. There is the factory made side opening shipping container, which comes with large cargo doors on the side of the container to allow for side access. This option, although popular is a specialist design which means it does come at a premium price. With a higher price tag, these units aren’t suitable for every customers needs, but we have plenty of alternatives!
Open Sided Shipping Container
In this case, we worked with our customer to come up with the best solution for their storage needs. They originally came to us looking for shipping containers with and electric roller shutter in the side. The customer discussed with our Sales Team why they were looking at the roller shutters and let us know their budget. With this information, our team came up with a more cost effective solution.
Pallet Storage
The customer wanted a storage container with an open 20′ side so they could drive bunded ballets in and out with ease. They didn’t want to have to mess around removing lots of pallets to get to the one they wanted.
With no need for the unit to be wind and watertight, the container actually didn’t need roller shutters or side opening doors. They also had no worries on security for the container so didn’t need any way to secure the unit. All they wanted was something cheap and cheerful to do the job.
The customer was not hugely concerned with the looks of the container either. To keep costs down, they chose a refurbished shipping container. Made from a used container (around 15 years old) and repainted customer’s choice of colour to smarten the unit up.
20′ Side Removed
With an understanding of what the customer needed, the solution was simple. We removed one 20′ side of a used shipping container and left it empty. We completed this work in our Liverpool Conversion depot. Once the side had been removed, the team in the yard reinforced the top rail to prevent sagging over time. They also created box sections around the cut area to support the unit.
