These one trip (new) 20ft side opening shipping containers are very popular with customers who want quick and easy access to items stored within. Often used for pallets, or for the storage of large and bulky items that won’t fit through the end doors of a standard shipping container.

Recently we have seen a lot more interest in conversions, turning 20ft side opening shipping containers into self contained mobile exhibition stands, cafes and snack stands and retail outlets. We also find these very popular for generator housings, biomass boilers and for a number of specialised engineering applications.

As you look from the outside at the end opening doors, the side opening doors are always to the right-hand side of the unit as seen when looking at the standard cargo doors. Left-hand side opening containers are available sometimes but not as often we we’d like.

For export use these one trip 20ft side opening shipping containers are very popular for vehicles or oversize items i.e. anything that you can’t easily load through the end doors of a container. Only some of the ranges of side opening containers have floor mounted lashing points – if you need these for securing your cargo please make tins clear to us at the time you request a price.

For storage use, these offer excellent easy access secure storage. If you need to store pallets but don’t want to spend your time digging out a pallet from the wrong end of a standard shipping container then this solution is ideal. Also, if you need rapid access to items, or if you’re storing any stock that is simply too big to fit through the end doors in a shipping container, a side opening container is an ideal solution.

Regional availability and prices will vary slightly, so please contact us for a quote. As a rough guide these are around twice the price of a standard, end opening new build container – there’s a lot of specialised engineering that goes into these side doors and as they are specialist containers they aren’t built in the sorts of volumes that standard shipping containers are built in – so the factories can’t offer the same economies of scale.

We may also be able to take a container and modify it to have curtain access along the side. Door panel sizes do vary from one range to the next but all doors we’ve seen operate in the same manner and will always fold back onto the sides as shown in the video.

Please be advised that these are sold as ‘one trip containers’ and are not brand new. All of our shipping containers are built in the factory in China or the far east and have done 1 trip into the UK since new. Some minor cosmetic wear may be evident from this initial trip. Minor dents and scrapes are reasonably common, as are tire marks inside your container where a fork lift truck or similar may have unloaded goods from inside the container.

We recommend considering a circa 1 inch (2.5cm) tolerance. Where possible we have given a range on known variations in dims between ranges but we can’t guarantee this to be totally accurate for all ranges. If you have a specific sized problem or item to load that’s near these dims please double check with us in advance and if needs be we will get someone to measure your exact container before delivery.
