Product Description

Non operational refrigerated shipping containers are an great option for anyone looking for a storage unit with high quality insulation. They are incredibly popular in the UK but stock levels do vary and are not always readily available.

Insulation

Refrigerated shipping containers have a very good layer of insulation inside the container walls. The quality of the insulation inside of the reefer containers is excellent and is much better than insulation kits, grafotherm or lining and insulating a standard shipping container for preventing condensation build up.

The insulation also means the container can maintain an ambient temperature regardless of outside temperature.

They also have insulated doors with heavy duty rubber door seals. These are designed to be airtight, however, we do not guarantee that the will still be.

The insulation of a non op reefer makes these units ideal for storing anything that you want to avoid having temperature or moisture fluctuations (some foods, paperwork, furniture and more).

Floor Type

Most often, these non op reefers will come with a aluminium T-Bar floor. These are easy to clean and very durable.

Chequerplate aluminium flooring is sometimes available. It is much less common than T-Bar, and often an aftermarket addition to make them easier to sweep out.

Height

Most often, 40ft non-op reefers will be high cube (9’6 high). Standard height units have almost all stopped being used by shipping lines, with them preferring HC versions.

DV (8’6) units may pop up every now and then but these will generally be much harder to come across (and likely more expensive).

Availability

Stock levels do vary with these types of units. Non op reefers only really become available when they have taken the right kind of damage / break down so they are no longer worth repairing. Although they will have sustained damage enough to write them off as a working reefer, the damage will not have affected the cargo space or structure.

As they have to be damaged or break down in just the right way, it does mean stock is often scarce.

Generally, the damage will involve a compressor failure as this is a very expensive part to replace or fix. This does mean that supplies are inconsistent and may be available in some locations while not in others.
