Product Description
Absorpole is the market leading desiccant or moisture trap for a range of enclosed spaces including shipping containers. These are moisture absorbing products that are used in storage and export containers. They are a really simple and effective method of protecting your goods from potential moisture problems.
Absorpoles are the market-leading shipping container moisture traps. They are well established and have been in use in the shipping industry for many years. They are a very well tested and reliable product.
‘Condensation’ and ‘damp’ are two words people hate associating with containers. There are various options and preventative solutions to reduce (and to some extent completely prevent) moisture build-up within your container (most of which are listed here in our ultimate guide for condensation prevention).
They are great for use in export containers – protecting your shipment from moisture within the container. They are also very popular for domestic storage use too, whether storing house contents during a renovation, or overflowing textiles / paperwork for your business.
How They Work
Moisture traps are super easy to use, non-toxic and suck up to 2 litres of water per pole. You can see our neat video on Absorpoles here which should tell you all you need to know:
These desiccants collect liquid from within your container. The calcium chloride gradually dissolves into a brine, which is trapped in the plastic collector at the bottom of the pole. Once collection, the moisture cannot re-evaporate back into the air.
The absorbing agent is calcium chloride with a 77% purity.
These products begin to work once it has been removed from the sealed packaging. They have an operational temperature of -20 °C to 80 °C. These poles have a shelf like of 3 years from the production date (if unopened). You can find this date printed on the packing label.
How Many Absorpoles Do I Need?
There is no immediate answer here as there are a lot of factors which affect how well the moisture traps will work.
For export use, the moisture content of your goods, the climate conditions, air volume and the shipment length all change how long an absorpole will last. You can also read about AGA Rangemaster and their experience using our Absorpoles for their export project. .
For domestic storage, it will be much easier to monitor the absorpoles and see how well they are working for you. You can regularly check the water levels of the poles you have in your container, if they are filling quickly you may need to consider needing additional units.
For 20ft storage containers, we recommend starting with 4x units. For 40ft storage containers, we recommend 8x units. However, you should monitor how well things are working to ensure you have a suitable number.
If you are not sure on how many units you will require for your project, please get in touch and we will do our help to advise.
Carbon Neutral
As of October 2021, all absorpoles we sell are carbon neutral. There is no difference to the capacity or its effectiveness. The only major change is that the outer case is now grey and not blue to help reduce the carbon cost of manufacture, and make them easier as well as cheaper to recycle.
The case is also now made from 100% recycled plastic (whereas before it was made from 50% recycled plastic). You can read more about how this was achieved and the certification in our post about absorpoles now being carbon neutral.
Absorpoles by the Pallet
1x Pallet (230x units per pallet) delivered to Mainland UK or Northern Ireland – £12.50 + VAT each (£2875 + VAT per pallet
You will need the capacity to offload via forklift to accept a pallet delivery. We can’t provide a forklift with delivery at this price. You will also need a site capable of receiving a large articulated truck. Also deliveries are not timed. If you need a different level of service this can be offered on request but will be charged differently.
We are unable to take orders of this size online. Please get in touch with us if you would like to order a pallet and we will be able to help.
Disposal
These moisture traps are intended for single use. To minimise the environmental impact, we recommend:
The plastic parts are made with 100% recycled plastic, and can be recycled.
The calciu, chloride brine can be considered as hazardous waste (as it can be irritating to eyes). To dispose of this, you will need to check your local disposal regulations. You should be able to get this from your local authorities.</p>
For very large volume customers we also now have a return to factory scheme. This is currently only available if buying multiple pallets or more on a regular basis.
