When you order a refurbished container from us it is possible to have the container supplied with the original cargo doors, providing we have spare doors in stock or are processing a container to produce refurbished units that only need flat panel doors.
If you do specify a container with cargo doors, please note that these may come with 3 or 4 locking rods depending on the manufacturer. Some ranges of one trip (new) container come with 3 locking bars as an ‘easy open’ design. Typically you are very likely to get 4 locking bars on the door of a refurbished container with original cargo doors, but if this is important to you please check this with us in advance.
Whilst cargo doors are heavier to open and close when compared to our flat panel doors, they do offer improved security thanks to the additional locking rods and the thickness of the steel used in the doors. Original shipping container doors also come with a heavy duty rubber seal around all sides of each door.
The original doors are ideal if you expect the container to be attacked and if its likely only accessible from the door end, but otherwise our shipping container flat panel doors still offer a very secure option and may be easier to operate by a larger range of people and abilities.
All our refurbished containers come with a lock box as standard and our 12-month wind & watertight guarantee. The lock box is a heavy-duty metal cover that protects the padlock from being cut off by someone using bolt-cutters.
To finish, our refurbished containers are given an external re-spray using a marine grade paint in a basic or dark RAL colour of your choice.
When we re-spray units that have the original cargo doors we do not mask off the locking rods or the door seals or the container information on the right-hand door. Therefore, a re-sprayed container cannot be used for export purposes. (we can offer this masking service at a slight additional charge. This will slightly improve the appearance of the container but wont’ affect its lifespan or performance.)

Bolt Seals and Lock Boxes
When using a container for export purposes, you do not need a lock box. In most cases, where a lock box is retro fitted to a container, it will fall outside the size limits of the ISO container specification thereby rendering it useless for export. Whilst new containers do come with lock boxes, these have been fitted in the factory and being ‘low-profile’, they remain within the size limits of the ISO container specification.
To secure the cargo doors for export, you simply need a bolt seal to secure the doors. Each bolt seal has its own unique identifier that is recorded on the shipping documents. If this is removed by customs when the inspect the contents of a container, this will be recorded on your shipping documents and the bolt seal replaced by a new customer bolt seal with its number being recorded on the shipping document.

Other codes on the door include the containers’ usage classification and reference codes for traffic contrail and security.
If you go to the BIC code website, you can enter the first three letters of the reporting mark and find out who the owner/original owner of the container is/was. For instance, if you visit https://www.bic-code.org/bic-codes/ and enter TEX, the system will return ‘Textainer Equipment Management Ltd’.
However as we repaint all of our refurbished shipping containers, we will paint over any shopping markings as standard. If you need the shipping markings left on this is possible but will cost extra (as there is a fair bit of work involved in masking off the markings before the repaint).
