Cutting room made from a used 40ft Shipping Container

November 2019, we have just finished this 40ft cutting room conversion for MIDDAS Interior Solutions.

MIDDAS are one of the leading producers of demountable modular partitioning systems, suspended and walk-on ceiling systems and composite steel door sets.

This was a bespoke design and build to the customers specifications. If needed we can make more units like this for other customers, but we can easily modify the design for individual setups and uses as required.

For this project we started with a used 40ft shipping container. As standard all our used containers are sourced direct from industry use, they are checked and repaired before sale so you are guaranteed a sound structure that will likely last many more years. Whilst we guarantee everything for 12-months we regularly suggest to expect 10 years of good use from any used container. Used shipping containers will have some dinks and dents in the frame as you can see in the pictures, but the starting price is commonly around £1.5-2k compared to a one trip (new) shipping container

Using the used 40ft shipping container as a shell, we have fitted a high security door and window to one end. the customer will fit their own ‘air lock’ divider wall from this end into the cutting area space. This allows for a changing area for staff to change into their protective gear.

As standard all our personnel doors come as a high security option. with a minimum 8 point locking system. Our window units also come with lockable anti-vandal shutters meaning the container remains very secure.

They are using the container as part of their production process. The unit has an ‘air-lock’ entrance/changing room. This is used to ‘kit-up’ prior to entering the production area. Once dressed, staff enter the cutting room via a door in an interior bulkhead. The cutting room itself is used to cut plasterboard. Product is loaded into the production area via one of the electrically operated roller shutters that we fitted in 1-side of the container. During cutting, the dust is extracted through a combined extractor and dust filter that is located in the opposite end of the container. When production has finished and the dust cleared, the second electrically operated roller shutter is opened and the product removed.

The roller shutter units were fitted inside the container to provide a neat smart finish, although this does reduce the internal working height of the container slightly as there are 2 roller shutter ‘boxes’ mounted just inside.

Finally this container was given a full external repaint in the customers choice of colour. We always use high quality marine grade paints for our container repainting which is incredibly hard wearing.
