Modified Shipping Containers for the MOD, Salisbury
Modified shipping containers are becoming increasingly popular. They can be modified to suit just about any project, company or person. We supplied the MOD with seven 20′ shipping containers, six of which had modifications.
Modifying shipping containers is a great way of ensuring that your container will suit your requirements. Whether you are using them for storage, or as welfare units they will be made to order and can be customised to your spec.
Modified Shipping Containers delivered to Salisbury
The MOD were having six modified containers for their site. Four of the units were modified in the same way, with another being converted into an office and another as a storage/ workshop space.
The MOD chose one trip shipping containers for all of the units. One trip containers are ideal for conversion work as they look very smart and have a longer life, offering great long term value.
The customer also chose to have all the units in the same dark green colour (RAL6007).
Made To Order 20ft Shipping Container Office
Office containers are a popular conversion. They are great for remote areas or for sites that may need to move the office around.
Our basic shipping container office is made from a used shipping container, however can be upgraded to a one trip unit. This is what the MOD chose to do. By choosing a one trip unit over a used container, they were guaranteed a near perfect shipping container that should last for decades.
The office was made to order and converted to the customers request. They were able to chose to choose the positioning of the doors, windows and electrics within the unit to suit their setup and location on site once delivered. By having a converted container office made to order, you can make sure that the container will work for you and your space.
The office container was lined and insulated, and with a heater fitted offers the team a very smart, warm space to work from. (even in those winter months!)
The customer also chose to leave the cargo doors operational. The original container doors can be welded shut and lined over. In this case the customer wanted them workable so they could move large equipment in and out with ease.
20′ Ply Lined Shipping Containers Wiltshire
The other 5 one trip 20′ containers were lined with 9mm ply lining and insulated with rockwool. Ply lining and insulating containers is one of the best ways to insulate your container and protect against condensation. It also helps to keep anyone working inside the unit cosy and warm.
Ply lining is just one of the materials we can line a container with. It works for most jobs and gives a very smart finish internally. Melamine lining is also available, this is a wipe clean surface, so most popular with food prep conversions.
Electrics were also fitted in all five of the containers. This included double plug sockets, strip lighting and heaters. Four of the containers also had a cable feedthrough fitted. This allowed the customer could pass through additional pipework and cabling.
This element isn’t one of our standard conversion option, so we requested the customer send us an example of what they wanted so we could fit it. If you are after anything we don’t offer as standard, just get in touch with an example and we can work from there!
The four units were mirror images of each other. This meant there was a conformity between the units, while still fitting the configurations of the yard they were positioned in.
For the other lined unit with electrics, they opted for our DIY heavy duty racking. Racking is an ideal add on for storage / workshop containers. They are an easy way to tidy up your storage containers and make the most of the space you have. We now have a range of budget racking for a more cost effective storage solution!
20′ Full Side Access Shipping Container for Storage
We did also provide the MOD with a single unmodified shipping container. They chose a 20′ one trip full side access shipping container to use for storage. These full side access shipping containers are ideal for sites that store a range of items who want quick and easy access to anything in storage. It ensures the item you want to get is not buried at the back of a container and difficult to get at. Side opening shipping containers are also great for quick and easy access by forklifts for palletised items.
Side opening containers are very popular for storage as the full 20′ side can be accessed. However, they are not widely used by shipping lines and only really available as one trip units. As this was a simple storage unit for the customer, they did not need any modifications.
As there were no modifications, the unit had a much shorter lead time. We delivered this unit by itself on a rigid truck, while the other units were being converted. This gave the hauliers a chance to get an idea of the site and be prepared for the later deliveries on the artic trucks.
