In early Summer 2023, we were approached to provide a container for one of the most unusual and exciting projects yet! Slimbridge Wetlands were introducing two of their newest furry residents and they needed a place to stay! Sam and Tilly the Asian Small Clawed Otters had recently arrived from New Forest Wildlife park and needed a new Holt (home) before they could be released into their new environment.

After some discussion with our sales team exploring various options and modifications, both parties came to an agreement on the best approach to meet the customers ( and residents!) needs. An added challenge to this unconventional project was the condensed time frame we had to complete the order. This was mitigated however by the excellent communication and problem solving abilities of the team, allowing the project to move forward quickly and without any major issues.

Once the modifications were complete the container was delivered to site, ready for Wetlands to make their own modifications. They cladded the outside of the box, giving it a natural wooden look more appropriate for the surrounding wildlife. Additionally, a living roof was added, compete with grass and other organic materials, giving the Holt a more natural look better matching the theme of wetlands.

Slimbridge Wetlands, Gloucester:

The shipping container approach was 100% the right approach for the project as it allowed us to undertake the works in a compressed time window,

proceeding with the site ground works whilst Jez and Paul (Stretcholt farm), could work on the container with the internal changes and windows etc.  It all came together in mid-June when using specialist

container moving equipment we towed the unit through the site (a fantastic bit of kit that attached lifting wheels to each corner via the iso locks).  Once in location we set about cladding and adding a roof to the building and finishing the landscaping up to the building ready for the Otters arrival just before the summer holidays.
