Used 40ft Container with Steel Floor with Lip for Chemical Storage in Widnes
Halfway through 2021 we were approached by Devenish, who wanted a container to safely contain liquids but at a cost effective price. They needed the container to be 40ft and had to have an easy to clean flooring. The most cost effective way to meet this criteria was for a conversion of a used 40ft container. Why consider a container with seam welded floor with lip and drain plug?
Our basic bunded floor is made by covering the original plywood floor with seam-welded chequer plate steel to create a waterproof seal against the container walls. The door lip is fitted with a drain plug (for safe draining of spilled liquids). This method leaves a good floor for installing shelving, etc.
The chequer plate floor we install are designed to capture and contains non-hazardous materials that may spill or leak. These conversions are very popular with customers who store low- hazardous goods in shipping containers and can convert almost any container of your choice.
By installing a ‘lip’ to the bottom of the container we can create a flushing area for excess liquid to settle. The chequer plate flooring replaces the standard floor to provide a surface that retains liquids and is easy to wipe and clean. It also includes a drain plug on the ‘lip’ for easy draining of spills.
Because the lip is 4″ tall and sits in front of the door, it can become a potential tripping hazard as well as making it difficult to get forklifts, pump trucks, etc, into the container. While this container won’t be suitable for everyone, it is however a great cost effective alternative for those that are not affected by the downsides of having this lip. This structure offers a circa £5000 + VAT saving versus a fully fitted sunken bund built into the floor.
