Product Description

Shipping container lock boxes (or cowls) are an anti-vandal padlock cover, which fits to the cargo doors of your container. The lockbox encloses the padlock so that it is only accessible from the underside.

As your padlock can’t is not easily accessible, it prevents someone from attacking your padlock with crowbar, lock pick or similar. Realistically, to break into your container with a lock box fitted a person will have to use some form of heavy cutting gear – not something a chancer will have on hand.

Lockboxes are a very popular option for containers being used for storage. Most one trip containers will come from the factory with slim line lock boxes fitted. For used shipping containers, lock boxes can easily be added on in depot before delivery. If you already have a container on your site, you can purchase one of our self-fit lock boxes. We offer both weld on and bolt on self fit options.

Please note these lock boxes will all be Right Hand Opening as standard.

You can see our short video showing what a lock box is and how they work. Please be aware that lock boxes can vary, so they won’t necessarily look the same – but will all do the same thing.

Bundle Offer

You can purchase a shipping container padlock (worth £45 +VAT) along with your lock box. These padlocks are designed to work with lock boxes and will help keep your container safe from break in.

You will save £10 +VAT purchasing these items together.

Please be aware that the padlock and lockbox will come from separate warehouses, so will arrive separately via courier. Don’t be surprised when one item arrives but not the other – it should follow shortly after.

Fitting Your Lock Box

Weld On Shipping Container Lock Boxes

To fit a weld on lock box you will need to use a qualified welder.

Bolt On Shipping Container Lock Boxes

These bolt on lock boxes are ideal for those who don’t have a welder to hand.

A drill template is included so you can accurately drill the holes into your cargo doors. The kit also comes with all the required nuts and bolts. All you’ll need is a drill, level, tape measure, pencil and spanner.

  1. Centre the drill template over the closed container door at desired and check level.
  2. Mark the four drill points on the container and carefully drill out with a small drill bit.
  3. Drill slowly using a low RPM o prevent damaging the drill bit. Shipping containers are made from Corten Steel and  if you overheat the drill bit and warm up the metal it will be even harder to drill through.
  4. Bore out the holes as necessary.
  5. Once the holes are done, check that the bolts go through both the inner and outer door skins.
  6. Thread the bolts through the lock box holes.
  7. Apply a small amount of silicone to the surround of the holes.
  8. Push protruding bolts of the lockbox through the holes in the container and spin the nuts loosely into position.
  9. The silicone will create a decent watertight seal.
  10. Fit the RH shroud on the right door and LH hasp on the left door
  11. Line up and check operation before tightening each nut completely.
