As Britain and the rest of the world start to think about getting back to normal after the Coronavirus lockdown we need to consider what the new ‘normal’ will look like. There is little doubt that there will be some major changes. Air travel may become more expensive and less accessible, retailing looks set to accelerate its march from the high street onto the internet, and businesses with large offices are looking for ways to protect themselves in the event of a second wave of infections, or (looking further ahead) another pandemic.
Socially Distant Office Working
Having been forced into making home working arrangements a lot of people have commented on the positive benefits this can bring. We have reduced pollution through less commuter traffic and many people are getting increased time with their families (instead of sitting on the M6 for an hour every evening!). Businesses are recognising that this type of working arrangement can increase staff morale and productivity and are considering making permanent changes to their set-up. In the future we may see much smaller office operations with more home working and less people travelling into a central office each day.
Office Space post Coronavirus
The change from working in an office to working from home can present some challenges. Deliveries arrive, pets need feeding, kids arrive home from school, there are endless distractions that can affect your concentration. Experts agree that it is vital to have a dedicated space for home working, with all the things you need to hand, and as few distractions and interruptions as possible.
It may be that you have a spare bedroom that can be converted to a permanent office, but many people will be looking for somewhere they can work at home in comfort and without distractions. If you have any outdoor space available, it may be that a shipping container garden office is the ideal solution!
Shipping Container Office Options
At Budget Shipping Containers we can supply a wide range of home office options to suit your needs. We can build a bespoke shipping container office to your design or supply one of many modular or flatpack options. A self-designed office is always going to be the best option if you can accommodate it. Position the door to work with your layout, place a window to match with the best view available, choose lighting that works best for you. Every aspect of a custom-made container office can be optimised for your needs. You can divide the space to allow for a comfortable meeting space, or if you normally work alone, a spacious open-plan layout will make for a calming and productive environment.
Used Office Units
We also stock a wide range of used offices in various sizes. These can be a very cost-effective way to set up a home office. Stock varies so please contact us and we’ll let you know what we have available.
Modular Office Space
We work with a leading manufacturer of modular buildings to offer a range of container-style buildings, including offices. Being modular in design these can be modified to suit any requirements, from a 10ft x 8ft bolt-hole right up to an office complex with many units over several storeys! Doors and windows can be moved or added if needed and larger layouts can be accommodated by joining several units together. These units are finished to a very high standard by the Austrian manufacturer. Featuring excellent sound and heat insulation, full electrics, heating and high quality materials throughout these are a convenient, purpose-built option. Price for these units is based on your specification so please get in touch for a quote, a basic 10ft office option is detailed on this link: 10ft Office Cabin Container
Delivery and Installation
Delivery into a garden for a shipping container is not always possible. Our vehicle, a full-sized Hiab truck (an artic for deliveries over 20ft), will need to get close to the spot that you want the container, and will need hard standing. These vehicles cannot run over grass unfortunately. We will be very happy to look at your access if you have concerns and can advise whether delivery will be possible before you order your home office.
If we can’t get our truck near enough for delivery you have the option of hiring a local contractor (such as a crane company) to complete the delivery. We will be happy to co-ordinate directly with your contractor regarding delivery to make this as easy as possible.
Once on site you will need to arrange the appropriate tradesmen to connect services such as electricity or telephone. We can supply your office with standard connections positioned where you need on the outside of the container. Once connected you’ll be ready to go!
We also have a range of flat pack office solutions that can work well where delivery of a shipping container isn’t possible. These can be moved section by section into position and then assembled, so can be located in places inaccessible to a delivery truck. This makes them ideal for tricky locations such as the rear of a terraced house or a large garden with no hard standing. Flat packed options include the Flat Pack Welfare office in 2m x 2m or 3m x 2m sizes, the Flat Pack Reception (offering much bigger windows) 3m x 2m and the 6m x 2.3 Flat Pack Modular Building.
Do I need planning permission for a garden office?
Our understanding is that a standard container for storage should not require planning permission (as it is a temporary structure). Once converted for other uses your local planning office may require you to seek permission, please check this with your local planning department.
Can we help you with your options?
We want to ensure that your order and delivery goes as smoothly as possible. If a garden office may be right for you please contact us (details below). We will want to check your delivery access and then can advise on what options we can offer. Please have the full delivery postcode to hand, we will be able to look at your site via Google Maps. If further detail is required we may ask for a set of pictures showing the delivery access.
