20ft Catering Unit for Kew and Ham Sports Association, Richmond
Kew and Ham Sports Association is a non for profit community sports facility. They cater for youth and senior football (including girls and ladies!), baseball and cricket. The club also offers event space, inside and out. This is where we came in!
The club needed to expand their catering facilities as their footfall has doubled in the last 3 years. They reached out to us as they wanted a 20ft catering unit from a converted shipping container.
20ft Catering Unit Shipping Container Conversion
For the catering unit we supplied the sports association with a 20′ one trip container. We modified the unit to include: serving hatches, a personnel door and melamine lining and insulation. The internal fit out was completed on site by the association.
20ft One Trip Shipping Container
One trip containers are ideal for conversions. Having only done one journey with cargo in, they will have very minimal cosmetic damage so give you a very smart base unit to work with. This is often a priority for our customers who will have the unit on show for the public.
A one trip unit will also be around a year old, so has a long life span (should easily offer 25+ years of use with minimal maintenance). As these containers have a long life span, you can be assured that your investment into your conversion should last a very long time and need little maintenance.
With their appearance being nicer than that of a used container, you also can trust that your container will look smart and tidy for a long time, especially with any new modifications being added.
Corrugated Steel Serving Hatches
We added two corrugated steel serving hatches to allow for serving from the container. The hatches come with gas struts, to allow for easy opening and closing.
The hatches can be locked from the inside so your container remains secure when not in use.
The club chose to have two hatches this allows them to take orders in one window and serve from the second to keep the queue moving efficiently and quickly.
We offer two versions on our gas strut serving hatches – corrugated and flat panel. The club chose the corrugated option as this options helps to keep a cohesive look across the whole container. Gas strut serving hatches are a very good option in the UK as when open the hatch can serve as a weather guard for customers at the serving windows.
Melamine Lining
The club opted for melamine lining and insulation inside the unit. Adding insulation protects your container against condensation build up inside the container and also gives the container a smart internal finish. If you also plan to have people working inside the container, it keeps the temperature much nicer for them too!
Melamine lining is a wipe clean surface, making it ideal for catering use as it allows for easy clean up. It also gives the inside of the container a very sleek finish. When lining a container, we can either seal up the doors and line of these (nicer internal finish) or leave the doors working. In this case the cargo doors were also left operational, allowing larger equipment to be moved in and out.
