Shipping Container Roof Terrace Bar Conversion in Barnet

In the Summer of 2023, we were approached by an events company who were looking for a roof terrace for their outdoor container bar. They already had a design idea in mind and were able to provide a great plan of what that they were after. We took this plan to our London conversion yard and brought the design to life.

This unit was delivered to the StoneX Stadium in North London in September 2023. The customer already had a 20ft full side access container which they had kitted out themselves as bar previously. The roof terrace was to be stacked on top of the existing container and used for additional space for events.

Our customer runs a successful event bar service, providing great looking bar units, with speedy and friendly staff for festivals, events and even sporting stadiums.

Shipping container bars have become increasingly popular in recent years. Whether as an extra serving point in a pub garden or travelling between events. Having a roof terrace for your bar gives you an extra seating area you otherwise wouldn’t have access to.

Custom Shipping Container Roof Terrace

To create the covered roof terrace, we took a one trip 20ft shipping container. Our conversion yard removed both 8′ sides and one 20′ length, leaving the corner posts in place to support the roof.

We also reinforced the top rail to prevent the roof from sagging. This meant that the customer can put signage on top without worry of the roof sagging from the extra weight.

By using a one trip container, we were sure the container would be in almost perfect condition. One trip containers have only been used once and therefore will have minimal damage.

We also then repainted the outside of the container in black. The customer’s bar unit was already black and as this roof terrace would sit on top it needed to match.

If you were looking to save some money, a conversion like this could absolutely be done with a used container. A used container will show evidence of its life on the shipping lines. (dents/scratches/faded paint). A fresh repaint will hide a lot of the cosmetic damage and smarten up the unit massively.

Bespoke Dog Leg Staircase for a Stacked Shipping Container

Our customer had a plan for the staircase leading up to the terrace which allowed them to make the most of the space they had available. We took this dog leg staircase design to our fabricator to bring to life along with the hand rails for the container.

Between the conversion yard and the fabricator for the stairs, we were able to make sure the balustrades would fit perfectly into the space where the container walls had been removed. Our fabricator delivered the staircase and balustrades to site and even installed them onto the container for the customer.

The bar and terrace were to be moved from site to site when needed for events. Having two shipping containers meant that they can easily be transported from site to site. The staircases were designed to modular. This meant that they are easy to assemble and disassemble when needing to move between sites.
