Shipping containers converted for bar and food service use is nothing new. We’ve already been lucky enough to have been involved in a range of projects including supplying shipping containers that later became the Singha Beer Street Bar plus cladded outdoor bar units for London pubs, cafe units for paintball centers and outdoor adventure sites such as Battlesports Gloucester, as well as our favorite circa £3k start up the Cheese Toastie stand.
In late 2019 we had the chance to help DEPOT Cardiff with a huge range of shipping containers for their new development. DEPOT has become the leading alternative events space in Cardiff since in inception in 2015, with many of its events being replicated nationally. Due to its roaring success, the team were looking at a major refit of the old scaffolding warehouse site.
In total, across numerous bookings we supplied a range of shipping containers with very basic work done, allowing the site to finish each of the units as they wanted. We did a lot of the heavy fabrication and metalwork, leaving it as easy as possible for the site to do the final fit outs. For a customer very capable of delivering the final fit out, this is a very cost effective way to undertake any form of shipping container conversion. For their recent refit the site required:
1 x 40ft shipping container for conversion in to a bar
1 x 40ft shipping container for conversion in to a trader unit (Concession stand)
1 x 40ft container for conversion in to a ladies W/C
1 x 40ft container for conversion in to a gents W/C C/W a facility for disabled users
1 x 20ft container for conversion in to a wash area
2 x 20ft containers for stage storage (positioned either side of the stage)
2 x 20ft containers for exterior storage
1 x 40ft container for exterior storage
On top of the above, we have since supplied additional units to DEPOT.
Conversion work done for DEPOT Cardiff:
We were responsible for supplying and installing high security personnel doors and making cut-outs for serving hatches. The cut-outs were finished, by us, with box section, following which we painted the exteriors of the containers with black paint. The box section framing around the window apertures allows the site to fit serving hatches and serve through the apertures without sharp edges.
With a limited time to complete the units (2-weeks), our depots in London and Birmingham worked diligently to get the units finished within a very short space of time.
These all needed to be delivered and in some cases stacked inside a warehouse with a relatively low overhead clearance, well beyond the capability of many other container companies! Fortunately our considerable expertise in this area as well as the professionalism of our hauliers and their expert delivery teams help us fulfill the requirements for the all the shipping containers required by Depot Warehouse for this project.
DEPOT Cardiff is the premier venue space for creative music events, hip hop karaoke plus other events including Ginstock, Brewfest, Pizza & Prosecco and Bingo Lingo.
DEPOT has also been used, and is available for corporate events, beer festivals, location filming and more.
DEPOT continues to support themed street food of the highest quality at their events and this offering inspired the creation of the Pizza & Prosecco event that has since gone on tour around the UK.
